* We sometime close at 6pm if we have a rental, but we would post any early closures
About Us
Learn More About Us
In 2011 we began planning this adventure, to begin on a small scale, to learn as we go, with minimal risk, and very little infrastructure.
In 2012, Barnhouse Brewery opened to the public with a 16-seat tasting room underneath the back of the Knoell’s private residence in Lucketts, Virginia.
The response to the quality of the beers was overwhelming, So in late 2014 the Knoell’s purchased an 18-acre farmette, also in Lucketts, Virginia,
and we temporarily suspended business operations as the new facility was being built. Barnhouse Brewery re-opened on May 7, 2016.
Our goals are simple ones:
- Brew great beer that people like
- Meet and get to know the people that drink our beer
- Use local ingredients when possible
- Provide a setting that people will enjoy and want to come back to again
To meet these goals, we brew small, truly hand-crafted batches... no computer contrtol here, everything is done by hand. We invite you to our farm brewery and tasting room to enjoy out great beers!

A delicate brew that is a very easy drinking beer with a light fruity aroma and a soft maltiness with a light bittering that lingers into the finish.

International Amber Lager
This light amber lager is smooth with a touch of maltiness. A classic European lager that finishes dry. Simply an easy drinking beer

Mountain Pass Pilsner
German Pils
A traditional German lager with a slight grainy flavor and a nice mild bitterness into the finish. Crisp with a dry finish and good carbonation make this a very refreshing beer.

Good Gourd O’Mighty Pumpkin Ale
Autumn Seasonal Beer
This is our seasonal Pumpkin ale which we use English and Munich malts for a strong malty backbone along with fresh roasted local pumpkins . It’s moderately hopped but still balanced toward the malt. We “dry spice” the ale with cinnamon sticks and fresh sliced ginger.

Full Moon Tripel
Belgian Tripel
Our Belgian Tripel is light bodied with moderately high carbonation paired with Belgian spicy character from the yeast make this a very refreshing beer. We use amber “candi” sugar straight from Belgium which is typical for this style to increase the alcohol. Go easy on this one or you’ll start howling at the moon!

This is an East coast IPA but is not hazy... Juicy hops such as Mosaic and El Dorado highlight this wonderful IPA.

This is a lighter IPA packed with El Dorado & Bergamot hops which provides a pronounced orange citrus flavor with just a little bite at the end!

American Pale Ale
Our pale ale is loaded with American Hops that provide a lot of citrus aroma and flavor. We then dry hop with Citra (tropical fruit flavors/aroma) to provide that extra kick of aroma and flavor.

This hidden gem is located right next to the Hidden Brook Winery and is a great little hideaway. They've got multiple TVs for watching the game, several high tops along with a good sized bar, and a fantastic, scenic outdoors. The staff and visitors were really chill and they allowed us to bring in outside food. Most importantly, they had a great selection of beer. Adding this to my list for a return visit!

Roger is a fantastic brewer; my favorite is the Hefeweizen. Other favorites are his Triple, Wit and Scottish Ale. A short few minutes off route 15 and worth finding. Interior is nice as is outdoor patio. Big lawn where folks can let's kids run, etc. Barnhouse is my favorite!

Roger Knoell
Master Brewer and OwnerSelf taught from back in the early 90's, Roger has been perfecting his craft ever since. He is responsible for brewing the beer, maintenance, cleaning, crisis managmeent, and works behind the bar. Roger has a full time job as a software developer and this place consumes the most of the rest. He is also a certifed BJCP Beer Judge
Rob annd Amy Larrick
Bussiness Manager and OwnersRob handles all things money and has a prime role of continual product evaluator (i.e. He drinks the beer).
Christine "Sissy" Knoell
Owner & Brewer's Better HalfSissy does a wide range of tasks at the brewery, but her most important task is to keey the brewer (a.k.a. husband) in line and on track.
Don Bredice
Assistant BrewerClose personal friend who came on board to help Roger out, but ended up staying, learning all the processes, and now has crafted several of our most popular recipes.

From Leesburg: proceed 5 miles north on Route 15 and make a right onto Spinks Ferry Rd. (Rt. 657). At 1.5 miles on Spinks Ferry, bear left at the fork. Continue for another 0.5 miles and make a right onto private road that leads to the brewery. We are 0.3 miles down on the left.
From Maryland: after crossing over the Route 15 bridge into Virginia, proceed 5 miles and make a left onto Spinks Ferry Rd (Route 657). At 1.5 miles on Spinks Ferry, bear left at the fork.
